Natalie Carr explains who, what, when, where, why and how
Guess what!? Natalie Carr is performing at Live from SOBATL at Smith’s Olde Bar (Atlanta Room) on Wednesday, April 24, and we couldn’t be more excited! Natalie has been on our radar since hearing her single “Blue Lights”, which released in 2020. Take a moment to learn more about Natalie Carr as she explains who, what, when, where why and how.
Zuko) Who do you think is the greatest artist/band of all time?
Natalie Carr) There are so many artists I love and admire endlessly, so it’s really hard to say. I’ve always been obsessed with strong, powerful female pop icons since I was a kid (Cher, Stevie Nicks, Carole King, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Tove Lo, etc.).
Zuko) What you been listening to?
Natalie Carr) I’ve been listening to a ton of 90s rock recently, and have found a lot of influence in the potent songwriting and anthemic choruses. I feel like it’s making a huge comeback!
Zuko) When did you want to become a professional musician/artist?
Natalie Carr) I’ve wanted to be a songwriter and singer since I was a kid. I’ve never really envisioned myself doing anything else outside of this, fully, if I’m being honest. Other career options were of course 100% more stable and acceptable, but I couldn’t live a lie and cut off the part of my brain that just wanted to sing and write songs all the time.
Zuko) Where are your favorite venues to play?
Natalie Carr) My favorite venues are the ones with a lot of local history - namely “punk” hole-in-the-wall venues because they’ve always been close to my heart when working in and around the scene. I love small rooms just as much as big venues because the intimacy and connection to the audience is really special.
Zuko) Why do you make music?
Natalie Carr) I make music to make people feel seen and less alone. Music is therapy for practically everyone out there, and authenticity and reliability are two of my strongest motivators. The power of a hits-you-in-the-guts lyric is something we can all connect to, and I endeavor to do that for people.
Zuko) How do feel about the local music scene in your city?
Natalie Carr) I live in Charlotte, NC, and much like any city out there, there are pros and cons. I have so many insanely talented friends in various genres (hardcore, hip-hop, death metal, r&b, pop, folk, etc.) and I love the diversity and mixed-bills you’ll see in the scene here. I think the city is a bit disconnected and lacks an overarching sense of community at times, but that’s probably true for a lot of places.
